Description Change this
Kino Šiška was a cinema, operated between 1961 and 2001. The two level building is the work of architect Božidar Gvardjančič. As condemned to decay the building was in 2004 included in the National Program for Culture as a possible location for the Center for Contemporary Art named Kino Šiška Center for Urban Culture. This public institution was founded on February 4, 2008 and hosts 250 events in the field of contemporary art and urban culture, which are visited by about 65,000 visitors. The center of contemporary and urban creativity is the first and only project of its kind in the region, intended for concert, theater, dance and experimental events. On the total area of 2,468 m² there is a large Hall of the Cathedral with 932 stands or 450 seats, a small hall Komuna with 200 stands 120 seats, exhibition area Camera and cafe with summer garden. The center was officially established on 4 September 2008. The renovation of the building was designed by Anja Planišček and Nena Gabrovec. The architects retained the modernist design of the original building, but at the same time renovated the building, which ranks among its major and technically state-of-the-art facilities in Europe.
